viking2.gif (3910 bytes)The Viking Network arose from a vision of how information technology could be linked with historical studies to provide not only an educational resource in its own right, but simultaneously promote communication and cooperation amongst schools and students of all ages, across national boundaries. By so doing, it seeks to encourage young people to appreciate and cherish facets of a shared cultural heritage, to look for similarities amongst people, to be tolerant of differences, and to generalise these sentiments to the global context.

The Viking Network offers schools:

bullet The Viking Network Web with accurate information about Vikings. (Awards)
bullet The web also contains a section where schools can present their own Viking projects, to be either included in the Viking Network Web as 'info-sheets', or linked to schools' own websites through the Viking Network.
The Viking Network organises projects in which schools everywhere can participate
f We also offer TEAM, an e-mail English advisory service, where teachers of English as a second or foreign language can obtain advice on everyday usage of English from a 'native' English speaker and linguistics researcher in the UK. team@onet.co.uk
Vnet-International - A mailing-list open to teachers, classes and pupils everywhere, for seeking links with other schools for joint work on Viking or other projects. To be added to the list, send an e-mail message to: <sod@indigo.ie> Working language English.
Vnet-Norden - A mailing list for schools in the Nordic countries. To be added to the list, send an e-mail message to <nilssv@viking.no> Working languages Danish, Norwegian, Swedish.
Viking-members - A mailing-list for members only. Working language English.
bullet The Viking Network also assists schools in their Viking studies by providing answers to queries about Vikings or the Viking Age. Academics and experts from universities, museums, archaeological and research organisations, all over the 'Viking world', are available to supply answers, advice and guidance. <wigo@viking.no>
* We are gradually constructing Bibliographies, of both English; French  and Scandinavian languages works, factual and fictional, concerning Vikings. These part-bibliographies may currently be referred to via E-mail through:barriemr@onet.co.uk (English) and <nilssv@viking.no> (Scandinavian) Eventually we hope to have these directly accessible through our web site.
